By reducing as many variables as possible, we have isolated skill and execution as the dominant factors in success and failure.

STEP 1
We used technology to create a bowling ball with significantly reduced capacity to flare and absorb oil.

STEP 2
We reduced the importance of 'whom you follow' by significantly reducing oil transition. Our patterns use less than 9 mL of oil.
Before & After Oil Graphs - Twenty Years Apart
Though Teen Masters started in 1997, it was not until two years later we embraced process verification to confirm the amount of oil on the lanes during our competition. Bowling ball coverstock and core technology were still in their infancy in 1999, but their ability to generate track flare and oil absorption was still sufficient to quickly destroy whatever oil pattern had been applied to the lanes. In 2013, we used modern technology to introduce a ball that does not flare and does not absorb oil, allowing us to reduce our oil patterns to less than 7 mL. As evidenced by the 2019 graph, the oil transition has been reduced significantly.
